Object description
The photo shows a painting by Antonina Ivanova, similar in style to other agricultural works from the 1960s, particularly from the Gallery's collection (on the reverse is a simple pencil inscription in russian: "A. Ivanova Collective Farmer"). The work in the photograph could also be part of a larger composition. However, even in this form, the structure of the image is complete and contains reminiscences of the monumental art of ancient Egypt and Orthodox iconographic practices. The work is influenced by the figurative and formal approach characteristic of Mykhailo Boichuk's circle, and in particular by the artist's practices of the earlier period, namely the 1920s, which is an explicit confirmation of Antonina Ivanova's thesis that the artist remained consistently committed to her teacher's visual concept.
