Object description

Waclaw Rzewuski (1706–1779) was a Field Clerk of the Crown, Field Hetman of the Crown, and voivode of Krakow. He was a son of Stanislaw Mateusz Rzewuski, Field Herman of the Crown, and Ludwika Kunicka. Waclaw Rzewuski was the owner of the Pidhirtsi Castle since 1735. The portrait is painted in a ceremonial official manner. The waist-length image represents a nobleman slightly turned to the right, with a mace of a Field Hetman of the Crown, which Rzewuski got in 1752. Waclaw Rzewuski's professionally painted face with a haughty and purposeful look is depicted against a dark background. On top of a red robe girded with a Slutsk belt, there is a kontusz with decorative buttons painted in detail. On his chest, there is a Star of the Order of the White Eagle. The author aimed to convey the inner world of the person portrayed.
