Biography: Nanette Windisch/Rosenzweig (a maiden name Haas) was an Austrian artist. She studied under the guidance of H. F. Fuger in Vienna. The artist signed her early works “Nanette Rosenzweig’; after marriage – “Nanette Windisch”. She painted miniature portraits of Austrian, Polish, and Russian aristocrats. She worked in Vienna. In 1804, she visited St. Petersburg, where she exhibited 5 miniature portraits at the Academy of Arts.

Object description

In a circle there is a bust-length image of a young woman. Her hair is red and curly. She is dressed in a dark blue dress with a white stand-up collar "chérusque" (it came into fashion in 1804); above her forehead there is a string of white pearls in the hair. The work doesn’t have any frame. The portrayed woman is princess Alexandra Rozalia Rzewuska; she was a daughter of Aleksander and Rozalia Lubomirski. Since 1805, she was a wife of Waclaw Rzewuski (Emir).
