Object description
The work is credited to a follower of the Austrian artist Franz Sigrist. The painting's plot exposes Christ's first appearance to his disciples after the crucifixion, the biblical story described in the Gospel of Luke. The artist used traditional iconography to represent Christ as a pilgrim before his disciples recognised him. The picture's colouring is based on high contrasts, elongation, and deformation of the figures' proportions, indicating a connection with Franz Sigrist's works.
