Object description
In the second half of the seventeenth century, a new trend in sculpture emerged, shaped by Northern Mannerism, which came across from the Netherlands via Germany. Sculptural works often combine different styles. The figure of a man from the village of Vodiane is presented in full length. He is dressed in knightly armour and wears a royal crown. The soft folds of the cloak fall over his shoulders. The sculptor carefully crafted the elongated face with a high forehead, small, deep-set eyes, and a barely noticeable smile that can be seen from under the moustache, which turns into a long beard. With special attention, the artist conveys every curl of hair that overlaps to form a hairstyle. The sculpture combines features of the Mannerist style with local traditions.
