Object description
In the half-length portrait, the figure of a Lviv councillor emerges from a dark background, facing three-quarters to the right. The image is executed in the tradition of representational painting. For townsfolk, the portrait was not so much an attribute of a high public authority, as an example of a respected person for relatives and friends. Often such a portrait resembled depicting the noblemen's images and included coats of arms and inscriptions. The portrait shows the brooding figure of an elderly councillor with a shaved head and a sun-browned face. A red caftan acts as a striking accent. There is a sense of calm and equilibrium in the work. On the right side of the portrait there is a coat of arms with letters: "F. W, S. I - K. M, R. L".
