Object description
The scene depicts a biblical episode when the shepherds arrived to pay homage to the Messiah. One kneels, while another is portrayed standing reverently to the side in the background of his flock. Together with the animals in the background, this forms the traditional iconographic theme of the "Adoration of the Shepherds". However, the artist adds other figures to give the scene a more solemn atmosphere. In a kneeling position, with their hands clasped in prayer, the people adore Jesus with reverence and devotion.
