Allegorical Female Figure

Mikolaj Ignacy Wyzycki's visitation reports (1741) state that there were four altars in the Church of the Holy Trinity: the high altar – to the Mother of God, and three side altars – to the Holy Trinity, St. Anthony, and St. Stanislaus. One of the allegorical sculptures on the church's side altar originated from the Church of the Holy Trinity. Allegories of human virtues are common in the altar compositions of churches. One of them is a full-figured female figure from the Church of the Holy Trinity in the village of Sokolivka, which is challenging to attribute due to damage. The polychrome figure is presented in a graceful pose and S-shaped silhouette (figura serpentinata). Her head is tilted towards her left shoulder, and her pretty and well-proportioned face is framed by strands of wavy hair, parted in the middle and falling in light curls over her shoulders. The woman is wearing a neckline dress with dynamic drapery planes with sharp edges. The emotionality of the image is emphasised by the diagonal lines of the garment's pleats.
