Object description

The portrait is of Zofia Cecylia Komorowska (1675–1720), as indicated by the inscription at the top of the image, the daughter of Mikolaj Hieronim Sieniawski, Crown Field Hetman, Voivode of Volhynia, and Cecylia Radziwill. The woman is depicted wearing a stylish silver wig with long locks falling down on her shoulders, an expensive dress decorated with lace, and a blue cape lined with white satin. The gracefulness of her posture and the manner of her execution show the influence of Western European art on European painting. From the end of the seventeenth century, portraits of noblewomen, along with a change of traditional dress to French fashionable garments, began to imitate European imagery. The portrait is executed by the artist following the canons of representational portrayal. On the upper left side of the canvas, there is a double coat of arms: Leliwa of the Sieniawski family and Ciolek of the Komorowski family.
