Object description
Angels are the best-preserved sculptural group – many have survived in various sizes and appearances. The angel on the console is a paired sculpture of the work with the inventory number С-I-1384. Both sculptures come from the village of Mezhyrich, Korets district, and are united by the same style of execution. The full-length angel is depicted in a dynamic Baroque pose. His body is gracefully curved to the left, his arms outstretched, his left leg bent at the knee, his head slightly turned back and leaning on his left shoulder. A soft line surrounds the naturalistically modelled figure of an angel with rounded forms. The naked body is covered by a loincloth with chopped folds. The pleats are made up of straight lines that intersect to form planes of various shapes. The angel's head on a short neck, characteristic of this image, is surrounded by tousled strands of wavy hair. The artist has painted an elongated face with plump pink cheeks and a distant gaze. The angel seems to be in deep thought.
