Portrait of ​​Karol Stanislaw Radziwill

Karol Stanislaw Radziwill (1734–1790) – a Lithuanian prince of the Radziwiłł family, swordsman of Lviv, governor of Lviv, voivode of Wilno (Vilnius), known by the nickname "Panie Kochanku" ("My Beloved Sir"), was the first husband of Teresa Karolina Rzewuska, daughter of Wacław Rzewuski, owner of the Pidhirtsi Castle. The portrait of Karol Radziwiłł is half-length. The figure is turned three-quarters to the left. The focus is on conveying the individual traits of the portrayed person. The face is painted in a light ochre tone. Realistically conveyed are a heavy double chin, tightly compressed lips with full lips which stick out, and a small, light brown curved moustache A high forehead with wrinkles, barely arched eyebrows and brown eyes suggested an educated man. He wears a blue ribbon and a star of the Order of the White Eagle. The crimson drapery on the shoulders, lined with ermine, underlines the solemn, ceremonial mood. The carefully studied details, the texture of the fabric and the colour scheme of the costume were used by the professional artist to convey the sentimental mood of the man portrayed.
