Object description
From the end of the seventeenth and beginning of the eighteenth century, many examples of representative portraiture of magnates and nobles were preserved. At that time series of full-length portraits appeared for the palace halls of rich magnate residences, such as Pidhirtsi, Rozdil, Berezhany, Zhovkva and others. These were predominantly works by provincial artists. Bishop Teodor Rzewuski is represented in accordance with the canonical scheme in clerical clothes. The work is painted in a restrained colour scheme, without excessive decorativeness, has a special expressiveness and attention to the image of the depicted. The figure portrayed is placed near a table with attributes on it - a book and a crucifix. Under the coat of arms on the portrait is the inscription: "TEODOR RZEWUSKI BISKUP PLOCKI".
