Object description
The image of Maurycy Rzewuski is depicted in full length. The static figure is represented in a solemn pose. The man is wearing knightly armour. One of his hands rests on the hilt of the sword; the other one points to the panorama opening behind him. The artist painted the knightly armour in detail, which was typical of provincial painters. Chiaroscuro is minimized. The artist paid great attention to the expressive and large silhouette of the portrayed man. In ceremonial portraiture, there is a close connection with national traditions; the social status of the portrayed person and his service to society are revealed in detail. In the upper right corner of the painting, under the coat of arms, there is an inscription: "MAURYCY RZEWUSKI STAROSTA NOWOSIELECKI".
