Object description
An intimate portrait of a young man, painted in the traditions of Spanish art. The young man is depicted in a slight half-turn to the right against a neutral dark background. His black attire is characteristic of Spanish secular dress from the second half of the 17th century, the main feature of which is a wide, turned-down white collar.
The restrained colour palette allows the viewer to focus on the subject's psychological state. The young man looks directly at the viewer. His gaze is calm, focused and melancholic. His lips are tightly pressed together. His long, black, wavy hair falls over his shoulders and blends into the dark background.
