Object description
An iconographic depiction of Saint Francis deep in thought about the transience of existence. With his left hand, the monk is clutching a skull. In keeping with the "vanitas" artistic tradition, this symbol serves as a reminder of the fleeting nature of life and the inevitability of death.
Francis is traditionally dressed in a brown monastic habit with a wide hood. A soft, diffused golden glow – a halo – surrounds the saint's head.
The colour scheme is subdued and monochrome, whilst the background is a neutral dark shade.
