Object description
The artwork reproduces a canonical scene of religious fine art – the Madonna in Glory. The composition presents the Mother of God with the Child, surrounded by angelic forces.
The Virgin sits upon the clouds, tenderly embracing the Infant Jesus. This solemn iconographic type presents Her as the Queen of Heaven with a crown upon her head, emphasising her majesty and spiritual purity. She is traditionally attired in a red dress and a dark blue maphorion.
The Christ Child sits on His Mother's knees upon a green cushion. The gazes of the Madonna and the Son are directed at the viewer. They are surrounded by a halo of ten seraphim heads.
The figures are depicted against a golden background.
