Object description
According to Gospel tradition, three Maries stood by the crucified Jesus on Calvary: the Mother of God, her sister Mary of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. The sculptural group depicts a sense of deep grief, which is developed in the first two dynamic figures and subsides in the third frozen female figure. The expressive modelling of draperies and figures indicates the Baroque inspirations of the artistic solution of the work.
