Object description
A full-length figure of a Roman emperor, probably Hadrian (76–138 AD, emperor in 117–138 AD) – a middle-aged man depicted frontally, dressed in a paludamentum (a military cloak). The man holds the folds of his clothing with his left arm bent at the elbow, while pressing a sword against his shoulder. In his right lowered hand, the man holds a scroll. The figure is depicted standing on his left leg, with his right leg slightly bent at the knee. A strap is slung over his bare right shoulder. The man is wearing shoes resembling Roman calcei. He has curly hair and a short, thick beard. The man’s facial features are regular (straight nose, deep-set eyes). Beards were worn by emperors starting with Hadrian, one of the “positive” Roman emperors. This emperor is also known as a lawmaker and a skilled military leader (the scroll and sword are signs of such a ruler). The figure is placed on a round plinth made of yellow and pink marble.
Inscriptions
On the edge of the plinth is an inscription in white: "№ С-І-535/ Л.ОКГ". On the bottom of the pedestal is an inscription in black: "(G)NML" (the first letter is worn off), and a sticker with the number "20".
