Object description
This small wooden polychrome sculpture of Christ Crucified follows the traditional Western iconographic representation. The figure is stretched out in a pose characteristic of crucifixions: the arms are spread apart, the legs are slightly bent at the knees, the feet are placed one on top of the other, with a visible opening from the nail. The anatomically modelled figure of the Saviour is given expressiveness by polychromy, which enhances the effect of realism. Christ's naked body is covered by a perizoma tied with a cord around his hips. His head is tilted to his right shoulder and slightly downwards. The face is framed by straight lines of long hair and a short beard. The expression on the face is sorrowful, emphasising the drama of the scene. Despite the losses, the sculptural image has retained its expressiveness and retains artistic value.
