Object description
In family portrait galleries, an important place was taken by children's images. In portraits, children were often dressed in costumes similar to those worn by adults, with wigs on their heads. They were represented with a stiff back and fixed facial expression. The portrait from the Potocki-Sadowski collection depicts a little girl wearing a wreath of flowers on her head. A child from the Potocki family is an example of a children's allegorical portrait, which was fashionable in the second half of the 18th century when children were depicted in the images of little goddesses. The girl embodies the image of the goddess Flora. The portrait was created in accordance with the European painting standards. The child is clothed in an adult low-cut dress with a blue cape over it. She holds a wreath in her hands. Little Flora is shown with chubby cheeks and a cute smile that convey the child's spontaneity, which the artist was able to see through the ceremonial accessories.
