Object description

Barbara Treter (?–1776) of the Chojecki family was a wife of Mikolaj Treter (1716–1775), a county notary. She was buried in Lublin, in the church of the Holy Spirit. Here is also her marble monument. The half-length image of Barbara Treter is made in a planar manner. Following the tradition of representative portraits, the woman is depicted in a low-cut dress, with a fashionable silver wig on her head. The curls fall on her shoulders. The image is three-quarters turned to the left and shown in a solemn pose. The artist thoroughly painted the low-cut dress with wide sleeves, which is decorated with white lace. The primitive art portrait is characterized by bright colors, excessive detailing of the image and accessories, a planar manner of execution, and solemnity. The collection of Borys Voznytskyi Lviv National Art Gallery houses a paired portrait of her husband (Ж-4894).
