Object description
The full-length figure of the evangelist, sitting with a book in his hands, is reproduced in a dynamic pose. Barely raised low eyebrow arches on a high forehead, a gaze directed at the viewer, small almond-shaped eyes, expressive cheekbones above sunken cheeks, and an open mouth create the image of an ascetic and strong-minded person. The concentrated and calm face of the evangelist is enveloped in expressive strands of wavy hair and beard. The saint's body is covered with clothes that expose only his hands and feet. The clothes are entirely covered with dynamic folds modelled by soft lines with rounded ribbed protrusions. The sculptural image has a Baroque expression, which can be traced in the evangelist's spectacular pose, dynamic folds of clothing, and emotional presentation of the image.
